does anyone here successfully spread bet the financial markets? e.g. -ftse intraday? and can help me?

Question by @@@Marty@@@: does anyone here successfully spread bet the financial markets? e.g. -ftse intraday? and can help me?
hi, im new to spreadbetting but recognise that it could be very profitable if i mastered it. I would ideally like to concentrate on just one thing e.g. – the ftse and become a master at this. I have had a look for books on this topic but they are simplistic and limited in number. I was wondering if successful trader may be kind enough to tutor me /help me in anyway with tips etc?

this would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Spread betting, UK? Anyone know who typically offers the tightest B/O spead?

Question by Richard C: Spread betting, UK? Anyone know who typically offers the tightest B/O spead?
And who lets you set you own stop loss wherever you want. (I only ask this a Barclays CFD seems to not allow a stop loss on the FTSE 100 of less than 40 points off the mid point.

Any other comments on the relative merits / demerits of financial spread betting companies gratefully received.

You should be aware that FTSE100 ‘jitters’ a lot …

Whilst a 40 point ‘spike’ is unusual, it does sometimes happen … and I’m sure you would be less than happy to find yourself stopped out due to a 15 second ‘spike’ …

Does anyone ever make a living at financial spread betting, apart from the betting company?

Yes I worked for an FX hedge fund and I had one client who made a living out of spread betting on currencies (mainly CFDs). As for how successful he was, he made anout £180-200k a year….the main advantage being that it’s tax free, disadvantage being that it’s risky and quite irregular income. It’s worth mentioning that he had a solid background in trading spot FX for a few investment banks and had a good about of capital behind him first though. There are a number of people who do it on a variety of areas though but it tends to be just part of an overall strategy (that is to say they will invest directly in the markets as well)
