Question by William M: Is spread betting really worth the hastle to trade the financial markets with, or is it too risky to do so?
I am 18 years old, I have a practice spread betting account and use it to trade FX with in real market conditions (apart from the emotions of course!). I am up 300% trading FX in 2 weeks, and I’m quite good at it too and can consistently make profits.
I want to know, in your opinion, as to wether you think that spread betting is a good way to trade the financial markets or FX markets, or if it is way too risky to do so with real money on the line? Am I likely to be wiped out quickly if I do this – thats what I’m saying? Is it worth the hastle or a quick path to financial ruin?

spread betting for beginner’s is just not a smart move as the leverage is too high…

Not a lot, really, at least in terms of the maths.
The CFDs are traded through a more transparent market and probably covered by a body such as the FSA, whereas in Spread Betting you’re on your own – you’re dealing with a bookie not a bank. But spread betting probably allows you more flexibility in terms of the size of contract etc.
Personally I don’t like any of these “zero sum game” financial products – the only people who consistently make money at them are the market-makers.

hi, im new to spreadbetting but recognise that it could be very profitable if i mastered it. I would ideally like to concentrate on just one thing e.g. – the ftse and become a master at this. I have had a look for books on this topic but they are simplistic and limited in number. I was wondering if successful trader may be kind enough to tutor me /help me in anyway with tips etc?
